Nine Open Championships have been hosted by Royal Troon, and Tiger Woods has won three of them. However, Woods has never taken home an Open Championship trophy from Royal Troon.
Before this week’s tournament, the 48-year-old golfing star said, “I’ll play as long as I can play and I feel like I can still win the event,” brushing off rumors that he might announce his retirement.
With a birdie on the par-three third, he got off to a solid start in windy and challenging conditions on the west coast of Scotland on Thursday. However, the 15-time major champion soon fell behind with a double bogey.

After carding an opening round of 79 to trail the overnight lead by 15 shots, he eventually arrived at the clubhouse on +8. Seems like a long shot to make the cut.
