After a challenging U.S. Open, golf icon Tiger Woods announced his retirement; but, the 48-year-old multiple major winner could pursue a Grand Slam on the Senior Tour.

In two years, Tiger Woods may transfer to the PGA Champions Tour after expressing dissatisfaction with his present performance. The 48-year-old has won 15 major championships, but his lack of success at the US Open this month was evident when he missed the cut on the tournament’s final round day. Woods told reporters, “It’s one of those things where you have to make the cut in order to win a golf tournament.”

It is disappointing that I am unable to win the event from my current position. I felt that my play was good enough to be competitive. It was just not meant to be. I’m not sure what my last Open Championship or U.S. Open Championship was. It might or might not be.

Woods’ automobile accident in February 2021, which almost ended his professional golf career, is still something he is working to overcome. In more than three years, the American has only made ten competitive starts since then. But in two years, Woods will be able to play on the Senior Tour, and golfer Padraig Harrington believes he could receive a lifeline if he wins a Grand Slam of US Open championships.

Should Woods pursue the Grand Slam, he would become the most decorated USGA Champion in history. No golfer has ever won the US Junior Amateur, US Amateur, US Open, and US Senior Open during their career. Nine USGA titles are among Woods’ accomplishments; he won three US Junior Amateurs, three US Amateurs, and three US Open titles between 1991 and 1996.

Seniors standout Harrington said Golfweek, “He’d love to win that Grand Slam and get some of the other senior majors on his CV.” “We were just passing each other at the [PNC Championship] when I noticed him, and he laughed at me. I won’t quote him directly, but the essence of his statement was that he was eager to beat me.

Tiger might potentially have an impact on the PGA Tour Champions, according to Geoff Ogilvy. Ogilvy said, “Taking a cart changes everything for him.” “Enthusiasts and sponsors will have unprecedented interest.” If he chooses to play, I believe there’s a fair chance his Champions Tour ratings will surpass those of the PGA Tour. What else is he going to do, then?

Miller Brady, the president of the Tour, has already laid out the ideal circumstances for Woods’ possible return. “In an ideal situation, Tiger turns 50 and the Mitsubishi Electric (in January 2026) is his first start,” Brady stated. “Maybe you pair him with Fred Couples and they have a great time.”
