The New York Jets might be the perfect place for Brock Bowers.
With the 2024 NFL Draft quickly coming, the New York Jets are thought to be the most likely destination for standout tight end Brock Bowers, who has had a busy offseason.
Alex Kay of Bleacher Report revealed their list of probable draft choices that seem certain, which included a few obvious choices. In addition to writing about why the Jets and Bowers make sense with the No. 10 pick, Kay also had Caleb Williams with the Chicago Bears and Marvin Harrison Jr. with the Arizona Cardinals.
“The New York front office did well addressing that area by signing both Tyron Smith and John Simpson and trading for Morgan Moses at the onset of the new league year,” Kay wrote, “even though the squad also had some major needs along the offensive line.” The tight end position is now the biggest area of uncertainty on this team, and Bowers is well-suited to address it. Should the Georgia prospect remain unclaimed at number 10, it would be imprudent for the Jets to pass him up.
Bowers might provide the Jets quarterback with an interesting weapon to work with in the upcoming season, as Aaron Rodgers is expected to return in 2024.
Is Brock Bowers a Potential NFL Star?
Although tight end isn’t the most valuable position in the NFL right now, Bowers has the qualifications and experience to be a top-10 choice.
After graduating from Napa, California’s high school, Bowers was a 4-star recruit. Leading universities like Michigan and Notre Dame offered Bowers scholarships, but he chose to play for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs instead.
The twenty-one-year-old saw huge returns from that choice. All of the statistics and honors were accumulated by Bowers in just three seasons at Georgia. As the best tight end in the country, he won two national titles, three All-American selections, and two John Mackey Awards before leaving Athens.
Bowers is now listed as the No. 9 overall prospect by the consensus big board and is by far the best tight end. The 53rd overall prospect from Texas, Ja’Tavion Sanders, is the next closest prospect at the position.
Bowers is such a dynamic mismatch in the passing game because of his small body, excellent play speed, burst, and exceptional hands. After the catch, Bowers was difficult for defenses to bring down, which allowed him to regularly produce spectacular plays.
With that skill set, Bowers might be a terrific middle-of-the-field weapon for New York to relieve some of the load on Garrett Wilson and the other players.
Reducing the strain on Garrett Wilson
It will be crucial for the Jets to find a method to relieve some of Garett Wilson’s workload in 2024, whether or not they select Bowers.
The former first-round choice in the 2022 NFL Draft has caught 178 passes for 2,145 yards and seven touchdowns in his career’s first 178 receptions. On the other hand, rival defenses have figured out how to concentrate on stopping him and so stopping the Jets’ entire offensive line.
Because there aren’t many other trustworthy pass-catching weapons, Wilson has been the focal point of New York’s passing attack. The Jets quarterbacks tried to force feed Wilson during Rodgers’ absence from the team the previous season. Wilson’s efficiency decreased to just 11.0 yards per reception with just three touchdowns to show for it, despite an increase in targets and receptions as a result.
A portion of the strain will be relieved for Wilson with the one-year contract that veteran Mike Williams signed. But selecting Bowers would provide the Jets another potent weapon for Rodgers if they want to advance even further this season.
