Tyler Huntley, inked a contract with the Cleveland Browns.

Former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley was signed by the Cleveland Browns, who added another unexpected player to their quarterback room.

The Browns added Huntley as their second quarterback this offseason. In addition, Cleveland acquired Jameis Winston, the former first overall pick who was expected to be Deshaun Watson’s backup. Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a quarterback in his second year, will also be considered.

When Lamar Jackson, the current NFL MVP, was sidelined, Huntley started a few games for the Ravens. In 2020, he was picked by the Ravens out of Utah as an undrafted rookie. In his starting career, he has a 3-6 record.

With eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, Huntley has completed 64.6% of his passes for 1,957 yards overall. His career quarterback rating is at 79.0. With an additional 3 touchdowns and 509 yards gained on the run, Huntley is a dual threat.

Over the years, Ravens head coach Jon Harbaugh has voiced his faith in Huntley when his number was called.

In 2023, Harbaugh noted, “Tyler [Huntley]’s a great leader; the guys love him.” “They see him as a competitor and support him.” Tyler is my love. He’s another competition, a young quarterback in development. He has a bright future because he is one of our guys.

Browns Have a Strong QB Room With the Addition of Tyler Huntley

Last season, the Browns had to discover the hard way how important it is to have a deep quarterback room. With Watson down, Cleveland started five different quarterbacks, including Jeff Driskel, PJ Walker, Thompson-Robinson, and Joe Flacco.

According to recent statements made by Browns general manager Andrew Berry, the team ranks the backup quarterback position among the “top 30” on the roster.

“We have always placed a high value on the quarterback position in the quarterback room, and if you look at our history over the last four seasons, we’ve probably been among the top teams in the league in terms of backup quarterback expenditures or resources,” explained Berry on January 22. We definitely think about carrying three quarterbacks, therefore I think the backup position is truly among the top 30 on the squad.

Which three passers the Browns carry will be the question moving forward. Without a doubt, Watson is the starting. Although Thompson-Robinson is a fifth-round pick in 2023, Cleveland thinks he needs more time to mature. Huntley and Winston, who are both on one-year contracts, may compete in the preseason for the backup position.

Jameis Winston of the Browns quarterback still wants to start.

It was unexpected that the Browns chose Winston over Flacco to start free agency, given the mutual desire shown by both parties. Winston, Watson’s backup, is more suitable because he is nine years younger. Once he got his footing, Flacco signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts.

Throughout his career, Winston has passed for 22,104 yards, 141 touchdowns, and 99 interceptions. As a starter, he is 34-46, and as a rookie in 2015, he was selected to the Pro Bowl. Though he is aware of his place with the Browns, he still hopes to start in the NFL.

Winston said to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, “Yes, I still see myself as a starter, but the Lord has also called me to lead by impacting and increasing the men who are around me.” “My first goal is to collaborate with Deshaun Watson and support him in becoming the finest version of himself.

I’ll be prepared to take a few games off of Deshaun if he needs to heal for any reason, but I have to put God’s plan ahead of my own desires. Since my ultimate goal is to win some Super Bowls, and Cleveland’s roster appears capable of doing so.

As part of his rehabilitation, Watson should soon begin throwing. Watson has made 12 appearances in Browns games over the course of two seasons.
