As the 2024 offseason approaches, it seems that the Denver Broncos will be shopping for a new quarterback once more, as Russell Wilson may have completed his career as a Bronco.

Chad Johnson, a former wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, predicts that Wilson will be playing in the AFC in 2024.

“We now have to focus on the Steelers. On the “Night Cap” podcast, Johnson stated, “A little birdie told me, and I said this many shows ago, Russell Wilson’s coming on over to the Steelers.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who used three different quarterbacks in the 2023 season, are undoubtedly on the market for a quarterback. On February 12, Pittsburgh also let go of Mitchell Trubisky.

Following comments from head coach Sean Payton that he was looking for a “spark” to the offense, the Broncos benched Wilson for Jarrett Stidham for the final two games of the regular season.

On February 9, 2024, during Super Bowl week, Payton made his rounds at radio row, stating that the Broncos were still undecided about Wilson’s future.

If Payton saw Wilson starting for him the next season, Jim Rome questioned him.

“That could happen.”

In an interview with Kay Adams for her program “Up and Adams,” Payton discussed his staff’s current progress in selecting the best quarterback for the 2024 campaign.

Can we locate a quarterback in the building, in free agency, or in the draft? I believe Russell Wilson will make that decision sooner rather than later.

If Wilson is released early in 2024, the Broncos face a dead cap charge of $85 million; but, they have the option to reduce that amount.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, the dead money would be split between the Broncos’ 2024 ($35.4 million) and 2025 ($49.6 million) seasons if Wilson is not released by June 1.

Denver Home of Russell Wilson Is Up for Sale

Despite all of the information and speculation that surrounds Wilson and the Broncos, there is one significant clue that points to Wilson’s impending departure from Denver.

Wilson and his spouse Ciara are reportedly taking bids for their Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, estate, according to Thomas Gounley of Business Den.

Wilson paid $25 million for the home in 2022, making it the most expensive home ever sold in the Denver area.

With only four bedrooms and twelve bathrooms overall, the 20,000 square foot property is situated on five acres of ground. A basketball court and a 2,500-square-foot indoor swimming pool are also there.

The Career of Russell Wilson in Denver

Following several years of unsuccessful attempts to acquire a quarterback via the draft and free agency, Broncos general manager George Paton made a historic trade.

After nearly two years of being linked to the Broncos in the trade for Aaron Rodgers, Wilson was prepared to leave the Seattle Seahawks and would accept a trade to Denver.

Wilson and a fourth-round pick were exchanged for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, Drew Lock, Noah Fant, and Shelby Harris by the Broncos.

Wilson was running the West Coast offense alongside new head coach Nathaniel Hackett, which helped Rodgers win two MVP titles.

Sadly, Wilson and the Broncos’ 2022 season didn’t go as expected.

With just 16 touchdowns and a career-low completion percentage of 60.5%, Wilson suffered the lowest season of his career. The veteran gunslinger guided the Broncos to an overall 4-11 record, missing the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year.

With just two games remaining in the season, the Broncos fired Hackett, and in the offseason, they hired Payton to replace Wilson in 2023.

Wilson’s numbers did increase under Payton, but the Broncos were unable to qualify for the postseason once more. With Wilson as the starting quarterback, Denver had a 7–8 record.

With just 8 interceptions and 3,070 yards passing, Wilson scored 26 touchdowns. Wilson guided the Broncos to their first victory over the Kansas City Chiefs since 2015, despite only finishing 66.4% of his passes.

Even though Wilson wants to win a fourth Lombardi Trophy for the Denver team, he may need to revive his career in Pittsburgh.
