Safeguarding free agents As of March 12, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Deon Bush had consented to rejoin the Kansas City Chiefs for a single season.

Bush, 30, will play with the Chiefs for the upcoming third season. He signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract to play in 2023.

According to Pro Football Reference, Bush participated in 16 regular season games in 2023 and was mostly used as a special team player, accounting for 77% of the team’s special teams snaps and 18% of its defensive snaps.

When the new league year starts on Wednesday, March 13 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time, the signing will be official.

Irv Smith Jr., TE, is signed by the Chiefs.

Additionally, on March 12, Schefter claimed that free-agent tight end Irv Smith Jr. and the two-time defending Super Bowl champions had reached an agreement on a one-year contract.

In the 2019 NFL Draft, Smith, 25, was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round out of Alabama. Smith, a well-rounded tight end with good blocking and receiving ability, stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 240 pounds.

Smith’s low price tag going into free agency was a result of coming off a season in which he only caught 18 passes for 115 yards while playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. For this reason, he was able to provide depth behind Travis Kelce for Kansas City.
