Lewis Hamilton has already given an explanation for his refusal to sign helmets, following reports that he declined to do so at the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg.

Although it’s unclear why, Lewis Hamilton has already said why he won’t sign a replica helmet for a fan in the video.

At the Austrian Grand Prix, the seven-time Formula One champion has been in high demand as usual. During a busy signing session, Hamilton took time to greet fans and signed hats and little replicas of his Mercedes.

But when a clone of his well-known yellow helmet with the Brazil flag printed on the back was offered, he flatly refused to sign it. When the incident was captured on camera and posted to social media, Formula One enthusiasts began to wonder why.

Hamilton has, however, already explained why he doesn’t autograph helmets with his recognizable color scheme. He clarified, saying, “The only item I would refuse to sign would be a helmet,” in an interview with GQ Magazine published last year. I’m really proud of my helmets; they represent my jersey.

Hamilton rarely part with his helmets as he cherishes them so much. “I might have given away two helmets, to like my boss and a really dear friend who’s passed away now,” he clarified.

“Those are ancestors of mine. I hope to eventually house them all in a museum along with all of my vehicles and belongings so that visitors may view my entire adventure beginning here.

Hamilton is willing to sign anything else for his admirers, including faces. “A lot of fans throw their babies to me [and say], ‘Hey, hold my baby!'” he disclosed. You’re stuck with this infant for now. I’ve signed someone’s cheek and forehead.

Despite having his best finish of the year in Spain the previous weekend, Hamilton has been underperforming heading into Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix. After starting and finishing sixth in the Sprint, he lagged behind teammate Russell in the main event qualifying. This year, Russell leads Hamilton 9–2 after one lap.

He said over the radio, “Ah, I am just slow, mate,” as he ended over six tenths behind pole-sitter Max Verstappen. When Hamilton left his garage with his Mercedes’ rear jack still in place, it was clear what kind of weekend he had had.

Hamilton was called to see the stewards despite the fact that the equipment slid off without much incident because of a suspected “unsafe release.” Mercedes was penalized £4,240 (five thousand euros) for the infraction.
