INDIA V ENGLAND: WE HAVE NO REGRETS’ DESPITE RAJKOT DEFEAT

INDIA V ENGLAND: BRENDON MCCULLUM SAYS HIS SIDE HAVE ‘NO REGRETS’ DESPITE RAJKOT DEFEAT.

Coach Brendon McCullum says England are “hurting” after their massive defeat by India, but have “no regrets”.

England trailed 2-1 in the five-match series after losing the third Test at Rajkot by 434 runs, their biggest run-out loss since 1934.
“We’ll turn the page and go quids in again trying to put India under pressure,” McCullum stated.
“Hopefully in seven or eight days, we’ll be talking about how exciting it is to be heading into a decider.”
Friday marks the start of the fourth Test in Ranchi.
England’s incredible victory in Hyderabad during the first Test was succeeded by losses in Rajkot and Visakhapatnam. England missed great chances to seize the initiative in the second and third Tests as well.

England defeated the hosts 445 on the third morning in Rajkot, scoring 224-2 despite the absence of India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin due to a family matter.
But England gave up the momentum after losing eight wickets for 95 runs, and less than a day later, they crumbled to 122 all out in their second innings, giving India their greatest-ever victory.
Prior to Rajkot, England had won 14 of the 20 Test matches played, thanks to a daring brand of cricket played by

However, this loss has prompted criticism that their approach isn’t flexible enough to deal with the shifting circumstances and conditions of Test cricket.

McCullum stated to BBC Sport that while his team will filter out “outside noise,” he “absolutely” understands the concerns.
“Personal opinions, whether positive, negative, or ugly, are valid,” stated the former captain of New Zealand. “It’s up to us whether we want to listen to it or not.”Guys are encouraged to put their skills on display and are supported to do so in the supportive environment of the dressing room. Our issue arises if we let outside sounds creep in.”
Ben Stokes defends Joe Root’s dismissal following India’s crushing third-Test defeat
England had lost 17 Test matches in a row before McCullum and Stokes took over. Since June 2002, this was their sixth loss in 21 games.

“We’ve still got some progress to make and some things to improve on, but we’re a better team now than we were 18 months ago,” McCullum, 42, said.
We haven’t settled on a solution yet. It’s a challenging method to play, therefore there will be moments when we fall short. Guys, we have to accept that sometimes we may fail and that’s part of the game. “The positives should be that we’ll keep packing stadiums, elevate the entertainment value of Test cricket, win more games, and become a team that fans truly want to watch.”

Joe Root tried to reverse-scoop at the speed of Jasprit Bumrah in the first innings of England’s defeat in Rajkot, but he was caught at second slip.
The main topic of discussion has been whether Root, the second-highest run scorer for England in Test matches, is hindered by his attempts to play too aggressively.
Under McCullum, Root’s average of 50.12 is just a little bit higher than his lifetime average of 49.32.
That is, however, less than the 54.36 average that Root was hit in the 20 Test matches before McCullum took over when the former skipper was at the peak of his career and amassed eight hundred.
“People see a shot like that and go, ‘Joe Root is struggling to deal with this new regime’,” McCullum remarked.

“His influence on the game is still enormous. Considering Joe’s skill and background, just picture if this becomes standard for him too. What is the ceiling, then? “Are we content with a Joe Root that is average or are we hoping for something even better? In that case, how many games are we going to win?”
Additionally, McCullum supported Jonny Bairstow, who leads the tour with a score of 37. “Anticipate” Bairstow to play in the upcoming Test, McCullum stated.
Under McCullum, England is undefeated in the Test series. They overcame deficits of 1-0 and 2-0 to defeat South Africa in 2022 and draw the Ashes against Australia in the previous summer.

“We won the first one here when halfway through the Test no-one would have given us a chance, then we lost the next two,” McCullum stated.
“The next two have me quite thrilled. “Too right, we can win the series.” This team is beginning to head in the direction we want it to go if we can recover from this.
