In 2025, Lewis Hamilton is leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari.

Lewis Hamilton has acknowledged that the team is going through a “strange” transition as a result of his upcoming exit from Mercedes.

When Hamilton announced in February that he would be signing a contract break clause and leaving Mercedes at the end of 2024 to join Ferrari, it took the Formula One world by surprise.

After signing with the Italian team in 2013, the British driver completed 82 of his 103 races and won six of his seven titles while with them. However, he chose to fulfill his “childhood dream” and sign with them.

Hamilton will no longer be able to attend team meetings and will not have access to all knowledge regarding upgrades and advancements, so he will not be able to bring it with him to Maranello when the Hamilton-Mercedes partnership comes to an end during the 2024 season.

When he was a teenager, he signed with Mercedes. At forty, he will join Ferrari, but he stressed that he is not going because he is “unhappy.”

“I have so much love for this team, so this whole journey has been really emotional for me,” Hamilton said to CBS’s Gayle King.

“I’m not unhappy there, so I’m not leaving. My departure is not due to problems in my relationship. They’ve stuck by me through good times and bad, so this transition is extremely weird right now.”

Hamilton has not won a race since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021, or around 51 races ago. He also failed to win in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Max Verstappen has won 39 races and three world titles in those 51 races, while Hamilton has only managed six podium finishes in a season that Verstappen dominated in 2023.

Hamilton said that his perspective changed when Mercedes’s competitive performance declined, but he is still committed to finding ways for Mercedes to get better.

“We exist to win, and when you’re not winning, your perspective has to shift,” he stated.

Then, it’s only a matter of improving and pursuing. It’s all about uniting. What changes can we make? How can we return to our desired state?

“And then inspiring everyone to get up.” I find that to be a really enjoyable experience.
