The manager of the Ferrari squad, Frederic Vasseur, acknowledged that Carlos Sainz was put in a “tough situation” this year. In spite of this, he defended his choice to add Lewis Hamilton to the team beginning in 2025.

When questioned by reporters about Sainz’s impending departure and seven-time world champion Hamilton’s integration, Vasseur has recently shown reluctance. Vasseur underlined the importance of Hamilton’s continued connection with Ferrari in an interview with Radio France, saying, “Hamilton’s arrival is very important for the team.”

He elaborated on the benefits Hamilton will bring, including stability, extensive winning experience, and a remarkable career record, all of which are crucial for Ferrari’s progression and success. “In addition to the speed, he will bring calm to the team, experience from someone who has won a lot and an impressive track record. We need that at Ferrari to move forward and achieve more results,” Vasseur said.

He also expressed enthusiasm about the dynamics between Charles Leclerc and Hamilton, saying, “I’m also super happy because I’m convinced that Charles and Lewis will get along well.”

Given that Sainz, who is scheduled to depart against his choice, has outperformed the sister vehicle in the current season, things have become quite tight for both Vasseur and Leclerc. When talking about Hamilton’s impact on Leclerc in 2025, Vasseur said, “It will help Charles as a driver.”

Vasseur added that Hamilton would have an ongoing effect on the team all season long, not only in races or qualifying sessions. Then, it will be about the whole picture, or 365 days a year, rather than simply the car’s performance during qualifying or the race. Lewis is, in my opinion, a true pro at this.

Vasseur praised Sainz’s professionalism in the face of these difficult circumstances and recognized his value to the squad. He pointed out that since the beginning of the year, Sainz and his group have been excellent team players in spite of the difficulties. He said, “They did that very well in Australia. They have known how to keep playing the team game since the beginning of this year.” Additionally, we urged them to transfer locations in Japan because their techniques differed.

Vasseur went on to explain how team commands were carried out without a hitch throughout races, highlighting the importance of maintaining team harmony. “There were no conversations started by that radio message, which lasted no more than a quarter of a second. We require that tranquility,” he said.
