Following the significant decision taken by Ferrari to replace Carlos Sainz with seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, former Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill stated he doesn’t ‘get what’s going’ at the team.

The announcement by Hamilton that he would be leaving Mercedes before 2025 and joining Ferrari stunned the Formula One world. It was a matchup between the most successful organization in history and one of the most successful drivers.

But since the announcement of the transfer, Sainz has been consistently doing well for Ferrari alongside Charles Leclerc, while Hamilton’s form has been dismal.

The previous race, the British Grand Prix, saw the seven-time world champion Hamilton secure his 104th career race victory in an incredible comeback to the top step of the podium for the first time since December 2021.

Hill perplexed by Ferrari’s choices

One point behind teammate George Russell in seventh place in the drivers’ championship right now is Hamilton.

Meanwhile, Leclerc and teammate Sainz are separated by four points as the Ferrari drivers are currently ranked third and fourth in the standings.

Unfortunately, Sainz’s run of podium finishes to begin the 2024 season was cut short when he had appendix surgery and missed a race.Since Leclerc’s sole victory of the season came at the Monaco Grand Prix in May, there have been doubts about whether Ferrari is replacing the proper driver.

The 1996 winner, Hill, has already expressed his perplexity over Ferrari’s choice to bench Sainz rather than Leclerc in favor of Hamilton, but he hasn’t been able to change the team dynamic to reflect this significant move.

“I don’t understand what’s going on,” he said on the F1 Nation podcast.”With the resources at his disposal, Carlos Sainz appears to be doing more and getting out of problems better than Leclerc. However, Charles will remain the driver. I’m not sure what’s going on at Ferrari. The team is definitely not doing much to support Leclerc.

However, he also seems a little perplexed, and I’m not sure why. Carlos, on the other hand, seems to be taking charge of the circumstance. He makes more of an effort to impose himself and gives instructions.

The strategists may feel more confident now, which is something they don’t feel with Charles.”
