Potential trades for Michael Gallup are being considered by the Dallas Cowboys.

Potential trades for Michael Gallup are being considered by the Dallas Cowboys.

Michael Gallup, the starting wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, is seeking for a new team to call home, and the Carolina Panthers seem like the most likely choice. Gallup may be a good fit for the Panthers, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, as the Cowboys have allowed the wideout to pursue a trade.

According to sources, trade rumors are circulating, and on Saturday, Jeudy was dealt to Cleveland after Denver received calls from multiple interested teams. Fowler stated as much in an article titled “NFL free agency buzz: Last-minute intel on signings, trades” published on March 10, 2024. With regard to receiver Michael Gallup, the Cowboys are considering all of their options, including a possible trade. The Panthers are a team to keep an eye on.

Gallup’s five-year, $57.5 million contract has three seasons left on it. It is difficult to conceive that Gallup’s current contract would not be changed in order to facilitate a deal if the Panthers traded for him.

The seasoned wide receiver will make $8.5 million this year, with a $13.8 million cap hit in 2024. Dallas may opt out of Gallup’s contract this offseason, but doing so would cost the team $13 million in dead cap space.

Cowboys Rumors: With the veteran expected to be cut, teams are hesitant to trade for Michael Gallup.

According to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are under pressure to come up with a solution by March 17, when $4 million of Gallup’s pay becomes guaranteed. It makes some sense that Carolina may be a viable landing destination for Bryce Young as the team needs to add receivers to its lineup. But instead of trading for the wideout, could the Panthers just hold receiver to see if Gallup is released?

Watkins indicated in a March 9 message on X that the “Cowboys have given WR Michael Gallup permission to seek a trade,” according to a source. “The situation is difficult because teams anticipate Gallup’s release.”

Since 2020, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup has not surpassed 500 receiving yards.

If the Cowboys are able to get anything in return for Gallup, that would be a huge win, even if it is just a late-round draft pick. After recovering from an ACL injury sustained in January 2022, the receiver has not quite been the same.

Since 2020, Gallup has not finished above 500 receiving yards. The seasoned player played in all 17 games of the previous season, posting 34 receptions for 418 yards and 2 touchdowns.

In 14 games in 2019, the wide receiver recorded career-high totals of 66 receptions for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns, marking his greatest season to date. Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, publicly criticized Gallup’s play during the previous season, which was an unusual move.

Jones described Gallup as a contested long ball receiver when he was available to the offense, saying of the player in an October 17, 2023 interview with Shan and RJ of 105.3 The Fan, “But he needs to get his hands right, needs to get those thumbs together on passes above his shoulders.”

Thumbs should be spread apart when you open your hands, not above your shoulders but below your waist. Therefore, the next game may be our chance to finally get him to the technical level we know he is capable of.
