The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly considering a trade for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, according to growing speculations. Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado thinks the Eagles are among Fields’ top options for a landing place. This may indicate that Fields’ trade market is contracting in part.

“I wouldn’t be shocked if Justin Fields ends up playing backup for the Eagles or Colts,” Allbright said in a message posted on X on March 11, 2024. “The Bears have been shopping him for a few weeks, and the market has been extremely thin on him as several teams that were being reported were never in play.”

Philly was also brought up by legendary NFL general manager Michael Lombardi as a possible trade partner for Fields. With the top pick in hand, the Bears may decide to cut ties with Fields in the upcoming weeks.

“It doesn’t seem like there’s much momentum,” Lombardi said in a podcast episode titled “The GM Shuffle” that aired on March 7. “We watched the video of him bouncing up and down, which impacted the [betting] market. “Well, that must be Atlanta involved,” everyone exclaimed. However, despite speaking with numerous Combine attendees, I haven’t been able to identify a team.

He’s someone I would trade for if I were Philly. Because I believe he could play well if you run the six-back offense with him and place him behind Hurts.

Eagles Rumors: Justin Fields Is a Potential Trade Target with Just a $6 Million 2024 Cap Hit

Although the Eagles wouldn’t trade for Fields to challenge Hurts for the starting job, a move of this nature would increase the pressure on the franchise quarterback. The five-year, $255 million deal signed by Hurts is expected to last until the 2028 campaign.

Fields gives his next squad an intriguing conundrum. With a four-year, $18.8 million rookie contract, the former No. 11 pick in the 2021 NFL draft has a manageable $6 million salary charge for 2024.

For 2025 and beyond, Fields will be pursuing a more costly contract renewal. But if Fields doesn’t sign with a team where he would be vying to be the starting quarterback, what leverage will he have?

With just the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders as viable destinations left, Fields is running out of alternatives. Gardner Minshew was just signed by the Raiders, so they probably won’t be in a rush to part with valuables to get another quarterback.

Eagles News: Bryce Huff and Saquon Barkley have agreed to terms with Philadelphia

Star running back Saquon Barkley has led the Eagles’ hectic initial round of NFL free agency transactions. On the first day of free agency, pass rusher Bryce Huff also signed a contract with Philadelphia.

“ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on X that former Giants running back Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a three-year, $37.75 million contract that could be worth up to $46.75 million and includes $26 million fully guaranteed at signing.”

With a potential annual salary of $15.833 million, Barkley surpasses the franchise tag number and would become the second-highest running back in NFL history.
