Broad receiver Amari Cooper will get a contract extension from the Cleveland Browns.
Although Amira Cooper’s contract is about to expire, the Cleveland Browns would prefer to have him around for an additional season as soon as possible.
Cooper recently finished his Browns Pro Bowl season. On 72 receptions, he gained a career-high 1,250 yards and five touchdowns. This offseason, he will turn thirty, but he doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Cooper is a straightforward pass-catcher who fits very nicely with Cleveland’s way of life.
During this week’s NFL annual meetings, Browns general manager Andrew Berry spoke with media about the possibility of extending Cooper’s contract.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Berry stated, “Look, Coop’s a Pro Bowl-caliber receiver.” He has performed admirably for us over the last two years. He has a commanding presence in the changing area. We adore him. Players such as those want to ensure that they can hold onto the ball for as long as possible, and we’ll address all of that when it’s appropriate.
According to current estimates, Cooper will earn $20 million and incur a $23.77 million cap charge in the upcoming season.
Browns’ Jerry Jeudy Contract Showed Proactivity
In an effort to increase the depth of their receiving corps this season, the Browns traded for Jerry Jeudy, a former first-round selection. In exchange for Jeudy, the Browns sent the Denver Broncos fifth- and sixth-round picks. After that, Cleveland acted swiftly and signed Jeudy to a three-year contract deal for up to $58 million. Fourteen million of that total are guaranteed in full. On Tuesday, March 19, the team made the deal official.
For a receiver who has underperformed and hasn’t even played a snap in a Browns uniform, that’s a substantial sum of money. Berry, though, believed that by acting early, the Browns were setting the standard.
“In Jerry’s instance, two new receiver contracts that truly are harbingers of things to come in that market have already entered the market,” Berry stated. Most likely, the peak of that market will be more than $30 million by the first week of the NFL season. Therefore, we want to be proactive when we think about the contract-management sector rather than being reactive to changing market dynamics. Perhaps more crucially, we consider the market conditions on September 1st rather than March 1st when considering an extension or signing.
Game-changing passes for Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson
With their arsenal of weapons, the Browns can have a successful passing game. Maintaining Deshaun Watson on the field will be crucial. Since joining the Browns in 2022, the $230 million quarterback has only appeared in 12 games. An injury to his shoulder that ended the season ended his most recent campaign.
