Nottingham Forest announced on Monday that they have filed an appeal against a four-point deduction for violating the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Following the deduction of four points for financial rule violations during the 2022–23 season, Forest found themselves in the relegation zone last week. With 21 points, they were one point from safety in 18th position.

Forest has seven days to file an appeal after stating last week that they were deeply upset with the ruling. Everton’s point deduction for breaking Premier League financial regulations was lowered from ten to six earlier in the season following an appeal.

According to Premier League rules, a club’s maximum loss during a three-year period is £105 million ($133.6 million).

Nottingham Forest is attempting to overturn a point deduction for breaking financial regulations.

Due to their tenure in the second-tier Championship until 2022, Forest is exempt from certain rules. Under these rules, clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of £39 million ($49.6 million) over three seasons, or £13 million ($16.6 million) per season. As a result, their total allowable losses over the previous three seasons would have been £61 million ($77.7 million).

With 21 completed signings in the close-season window, Forest established the record for most moves by a Premier League team following their promotion ahead of the 2022–2023 campaign.
