Like the Washington Commanders, the New York Jets have some quarterbacking problems to address. After hurting his Achilles tendon in the Jets’ opening game of the season, Aaron Rodgers is anticipated to be ready. With the second overall pick, the Commanders are anticipated to select a quarterback. But when it comes to a backup quarterback, both must make choices. The Jets may want to keep an eye on Commanders quarterback Sam Howell.

The Jets had nowhere to turn for a backup quarterback after Rodgers was injured. The Jets season was ruined by Zach Wilson’s obvious lack of preparation against a squad that was hoping to win the Super Bowl. Coaches and front office staff will lose their jobs if that occurs again. Some people within the Jets facility have faith in Howell’s ability to make plays, according to Connor Hughes of SNY. They may be assured that they can be productive at the position in the event that something goes wrong again by adding a player of Howell’s caliber.

“Howell showed he can play this year. His game has shortcomings, but not to the point that, should he play, the season is lost. Plus, he’s less expensive. For the next two years, Howell’s cap hit would be less than $1 million; this is significant to Woody Johnson and the Jets. Some inside the Jets building think he’s a player as well. Perhaps after two years of studying under Rodgers, he truly realizes his talent and becomes Rodgers’ replacement. Despite playing for a dismal Commanders squad, he did throw for 3,946 yards and 21 touchdowns.

“Compensation will be the main factor. If a choice on the third day of the draft is all that is needed, the Jets ought to make this move. Howell is an insurance policy that is equally valuable as that of Gardner Minshew or Jacoby Brissett.

The Commanders Will Require a Reserve as Well.

The Washington Commanders are in the same situation as the New York Jets, who need to decide who will cover Aaron Rodgers. But the Commanders might do better by bringing in an experienced player to help the quarterback they pick at number two learn the fundamentals of the NFL.

Though he won’t get it with the Jets right away, Howell deserves the chance to prove himself as a starting quarterback somewhere else. That place may become available to him once Rodgers retires.

There’s a situation where this works well for the Jets and could even aid the Commanders, depending on what they’d be prepared to give up.

3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions were thrown by Howell. The most concerning thing was his 21 interceptions.

Commanders’ Options for Quarterbacks

Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels are the most likely candidates to play for the Washington Commanders in the upcoming season. Williams will probably be selected by the Commanders if the Chicago Bears do not select him first overall.

The Commanders acquire a potentially franchise quarterback in Maye or Daniels, which is much needed. There will be seasoned backups available who can aid in the development of their No. 2 choice.

Howell could fit in with the New York Jets if he is moved. But, the Commanders must act in their own best interests and locate a group of teammates who are prepared to provide them with something of value in exchange.
