Disappointed After Two Mercedes DNFs in Australia, Russell and Hamilton

Australian city of Melbourne Lewis Hamilton, who is having the worst start to a Formula One season in his 17-year career, said he is staying upbeat by keeping an eye on the “bigger picture.”

The Mercedes driver is currently eighth in the drivers’ standings after only earning eight points from the first three races due to an engine failure at Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix.

The first three races have been his poorest since the beginning of a new campaign, despite the fact that he has scored more points than he did in 2009 with McLaren when F1 operated under a different points system.

Hamilton declared, “This is the worst start to a season I have ever had.” “It’s even worse than 2009, I think.”

Hamilton, who will leave his Mercedes team for Ferrari next year, was asked how he has handled the dismal start to the season. He said that he is still seeing some silver linings in the year thus far.

“Surprisingly, I feel pretty good,” he replied. “I believe I’m making an effort to maintain perspective, you know?

“I’m incredibly appreciative and have thoroughly loved my stay here in Australia; it might be so much worse. I continue to love being a part of the team.

“Of course, I’d love to be fighting for wins and finishing races, it’s never a great feeling when you come all this way and don’t even see half of the race, but what I know is that we will bounce back and will get there, we just have to chip away at it.”

In the Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton was running in 11th place when his engine failed on lap 16. This was also his qualifying position.

The seven-time winner claimed he wasn’t upset with the outcome and that he was only paying attention to things under his control.

“I think it’s easy to be caught up in the moment and focus on this one thing, but the bigger picture is definitely the focus at the moment and also just realising that you can’t control everything,” Hamilton stated.

“I’m trying to help you simply let go and be in the moment, but you can become irritated because you don’t have control.

“It’s not great, I’m not happy, but I’m going to have a great day tomorrow and train hard this week.”
