Possible signing for the Cowboys Carl Lawson
This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys have not had much luck with free agents, which seems to have been the goal from the beginning according to The Star. There has only been one noteworthy addition, former Chargers linebacker Eric Kendricks, who joined the team after initially agreeing to a deal with the 49ers, despite a number of starters leaving and players re-signing.
That has been the Cowboys’ offseason pretty much in its entirety thus far. However, team vice president Stephen Jones later stated that was always the goal for both him and the team’s owner, Jerry Jones.
He remarked, “I don’t look at it as the next few weeks.” “I view it in terms of how we continue to approach this over the entire season. As everyone can see, the first day of negotiations is intense and involves enormous sums of money. However, things are starting to quiet down. And we believe we can be effective and accomplish good things there.
Currently, strengthening their pass rush would be a beneficial move for the Cowboys. And here’s how Bleacher Report suggests they do it: bolster the squad with underutilized edge rusher Carl Lawson, a free agent who spent last season languishing with the Jets.
Could Larson Sign a $3 million Contract with the Cowboys?
Lawson, a player who is likely too excellent to be on the market, was ranked first on the list by analyst Alex Ballentine in an article titled “Bargain Contracts Cowboys Must Consider in 2024 NFL Free Agency.” With only $8 million in their bank account, the Cowboys may need to make additional room in the future (as they will need to pay draft picks), but Lawson may be available for a low price.
Ballentine suggests giving Lawson a one-year, $3 million contract. Lawson returned from a ruptured Achilles in 2021 and had his greatest season—his first with the Jets—in 2022, with 7.0 sacks.

Regarding the Cowboys’ need for a pass-rusher, Ballentine wrote: “The Cowboys could address the need by drafting a player, but there are veterans on the market who could contribute immediately.”
Carl Lawson is one that jumps out as a good fit. The 28-year-old is acquainted with Mike Zimmer, the new defensive coordinator of the Cowboys. When the two were with the Cincinnati Bengals, the defensive end was Zimmer’s teammate.
After signing a free agent contract with the Jets in 2022, Lawson had his greatest season there, recording seven sacks and 24 quarterback hits. But this season, he didn’t provide much to the Jets defense.

As a matter of truth, Lawson started 17 games and only appeared in six, earning no starts. Lawson was under pressure even though he was in the last year of a three-year, $45 million contract because the Jets defense had a wealth of talented pass rushers in the form of Bryce Huff, Jermaine Johnson, and Michael Clemons.
It did not cheer him up. Regarding his benching from the previous season, he said to reporters, “I’ve always wanted to help the Jets win.” Being the best version of myself for the team has always been my goal. But ultimately, since I’m a football player and not a cheerleader, that’s sort of where my mind is at when it comes to that. I do want to play football, I do want to produce, and I do want to help.
To show that he is still capable of playing. The ideal team to accomplish that with would be the Cowboys.
