Owner of the Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys may be adding a young wide receiver after parting ways with several of their offensive weapons. Michael Gallup’s departure may not seem like a significant loss, but it does mean the Cowboys will need to replace him at quarterback.

For this reason, according to Brian Martin of Blogging the Boys, Dallas may select Washington prospect Ja’Lynn Polk in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Polk is coming off a fantastic season, but the Cowboys may be the next team to see him play.

The Cowboys may have a hidden “need” for a wide receiver, particularly in light of Michael Gallup’s release. Ja’Lynn Polk will improve Dallas’ whole receiving corps in addition to eliminating that necessity, according to Martin’s March 20 post. “The 6’2”, 205-pound wide receiver is precisely what they require to play next to CeeDee Lamb. Throughout the whole 2024 draft class, Polk is a legitimate deep threat, a skillful route runner, and one of the better contested catch receivers.

Playing his finest ball to date, Polk and the Washington Huskies advanced to the College Football Playoff National Championship this past season. Nevertheless, he has shown hopeful indicators during his college career that he could be an NFL starting wide receiver.

Polk To Enter NFL Draft Following Career With Huskies

Polk attended Texas Tech for his first year of college before transferring to Lubbock, Texas, for his second year. He had a year to adjust to Washington, as evidenced by Sports Reference, which indicates that he didn’t contribute much until the 2022 campaign.

Polk caught 41 catches for 694 yards and six touchdowns in his second season in Seattle. His yards per reception stand out on the page, even though the volume stats don’t. In 2022, Polk’s yards per reception averaged 16.9 yards.

Even though he played a bigger role in the Huskies’ offense, his average per reception dipped to 16.8 yards in 2023. This previous season, he caught 69 passes for 1159 yards and 10 touchdowns in all.

Polk’s main worry is that his athletic ability isn’t great. Although he clocked a 4.52 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, Lance Zierlein, draft analyst for NFL.com, notes that he might not have the get-off necessary to be a consistent winner in the NFL.

Zierlein stated, “Polk’s speed proved slightly below average at the NFL Scouting Combine.” “However, his other stats were good enough to get him taken into consideration late in the second round of the draft.”

Ex-Cowboys wide receiver visiting the Ravens

Michael Gallup is searching for a new team while Dallas decides what to do with its wide receiver. Right now, it seems like the Baltimore Ravens are the team that is most interested in hiring him.

Adam Schefter of ESPN stated on March 20 that Gallup will be in Baltimore on March 21.

On X, Schefter said, “Cowboys free-agent wide receiver Michael Gallup is scheduled to visit with the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.”

Following a dismal conclusion to his tenure in Dallas, Gallup is seeking a new beginning. Despite having 1109 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns in 2019, he never again reached those stats. The former Cowboys wide receiver hasn’t exceeded 500 total yards in any of the last three campaigns, in actuality.
