According to Lewis Hamilton, it is “not impossible” for Lando Norris to win the drivers’ championship this year over Max Verstappen.

Currently 78 points behind Verstappen in the standings with ten rounds left in the season, Norris has been the three-time world champion’s closest rival thus far this year.

McLaren has improved to the point where it is now only 42 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ standings.

Verstappen is the clear favorite to win because of his big lead in the standings, and Hamilton has praised Red Bull’s consistency throughout the season.

He said to reporters, including RacingNews365, “It’s been a minute since I was fighting for the championship, but I think there was a time when I was here where I was 40 or something points behind.”

When you’re up against a car that most likely has a perfect record, seventy is a significant number.

“I believe that when Max’s engine died during one of the races, it might have fallen a little bit. They are a very, very high-performing team otherwise.

Hamilton believes Norris faces a “huge challenge.”

Although Norris has only won one race in the first 14 rounds, his streak of podium finishes has maintained him near the top of the standings.

In contrast, Verstappen has won seven races; however, he has not been victorious in the last four races.

Given that the rivalry appears to be on par with Red Bull, Hamilton thinks there’s a remote possibility Norris can surpass him by year’s end.

Hamilton stated, “It is not impossible, but it is a very, very high, enormous challenge and task that is absolutely not impossible.”

“They presently have one car that’s very up there, doing a lot of the point-scoring on the other side, and two very strong drivers who they can compete against in the championship.

“So they definitely have something they can work with.”
