The world’s best players will square off for the year’s last major tournament title at The Open tournament at Royal Troon starting on Friday.
With a first-round 6-under 65, Open qualifier Daniel Brown claimed the lead outright, closely followed by Shane Lowry, the 2019 Champion Golfer of the Year (66). Xander Schauffele, the winner of the PGA Championship, opened in 69, followed by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in 70, and two-time major champion Justin Thomas in 68.
Rory McIlroy (78) and Tiger Woods (79), two past Open champions, were among the players struggling in the Scottish breeze.
