American celebrity Scottie Schleffer was charged by Louisville police and taken into custody at Valhalla Golf Club. He has pledged to appear in court and fight for his innocence.

Following his detention at the PGA Championship, Scottie Schleffer’s attorney has claimed that the world No. 1 is prepared to go to trial and establish his innocence.

A police officer allegedly arrested and handcuffed the Masters champion as he entered Valhalla Golf Club, citing his refusal to halt. The American celebrity was accused of assaulting a police officer, causing criminal mischief, driving recklessly, and disobeying traffic-directing officers’ signals.

Tuesday at 9 a.m. has been designated as the court date. However, Steve Romines remarked, “We’re going to request a new court date and enter a not guilty plea. Is it possible for the charges to be dropped? Everything is conceivable.”

“Since he did nothing illegal, they will either be dropped or we will go to trial. Negotiations for a settlement or something similar piques our interest. He didn’t act improperly. It was simply a major misunderstanding. It was a sort of ideal storm for conditions. The death occurred a short distance away. It’s also important to clarify that he didn’t drive through any accident scenes.”

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, about five in the morning ET, a member of the public was injured by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla, resulting in another major car crash. The incident caused the course to postpone the tee timings for Round 2 by more than one hour.

“Scottie was advised to go around and turn left into the facility,” Romines continued. It’s clear that the officer who charged him was unaware of that. The arresting officer didn’t think he should have been doing what he was told to do, but he followed the instructions. That is the location of the misunderstanding.”

After 36 holes, Scheffler made his way back to Valhalla and shot a second-round 66 to get to nine-under par, his lowest par in a Major. Additionally, he increased his run of rounds at par or better to 42. The American described his experience of being held in custody in a statement he released following his detention.

“This morning, I was following police officers’ directions,” he stated. Given the horrible event that had occurred earlier, it was understandable that the situation was quite chaotic, and I didn’t really grasp what I was being asked to do. I never meant to ignore any of the guidelines.

“I hope to set this aside and concentrate on playing golf today. Naturally, the entire tournament team sends its sincere condolences to the family of the individual who lost his life in the earlier accident this morning. It really helps to put things into perspective.”
