As the curtains draw to a close on the 2023/24 Women’s Super League season, a significant chapter in Arsenal’s history is also coming to an end. Vivianne Miedema, the league’s all-time top scorer, will be leaving Arsenal after a transformative seven-year tenure with the club.

Miedema’s journey with Arsenal began in 2017 when she signed from Bayern Munich. In her time at the club, she has not only shattered records but also redefined the role of a forward in women’s football. With an astonishing tally of 125 goals and 50 assists in 172 appearances, her contribution to Arsenal’s success is undeniable.

Her impact extends beyond the numbers; Miedema’s presence on the pitch has been a masterclass in technical prowess, tactical intelligence, and sheer determination. She played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s WSL title win in the 2018/19 season and was instrumental in three FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup victories.

Despite suffering an ACL injury that sidelined her for a significant part of the previous season, Miedema’s resilience saw her return to the field, continuing to inspire teammates and fans alike. Her dedication to the game and to Arsenal has been unwavering, earning her the Arsenal Player of the Season award in 2019/20 and the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award in 2021.

Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu Gaspar, expressed the club’s gratitude for Miedema’s “huge contribution towards the success of the team” and wished her “the best of health and happiness for the future.” Clare Wheatley, Director of Women’s Football, echoed these sentiments, acknowledging Miedema’s special place in the hearts of Arsenal supporters.

As Miedema prepares to embark on the next chapter of her career, she leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations. Her name is etched not only in the record books but also in the memories of those who had the privilege of witnessing her grace the fields of Meadow Park.

Arsenal and its fans will bid farewell to a true legend of the game, but the story of Vivianne Miedema at Arsenal will forever be a tale of triumph, passion, and an unwavering love for football.
