The fact that the Kansas City Chiefs have two consecutive titles is largely due to the excellent play of players on inexpensive contracts.

Among them is third-year cornerback Trent McDuffie, who, in the opinion of Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report, is Kansas City’s most undervalued player going into peak free agency in 2024.

Gagnon reported on April 12 that the first-team All-Pro sophomore would only count $7.3 million against the Chiefs’ salary cap over the course of the next two seasons.

In 2024, Trent McDuffie is scheduled to become Kansas City’s CB1.

In his two years with the Chiefs, McDuffie—the 21st overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft—has become an instant celebrity.

In his second season in Kansas City, McDuffie maintained his impressive progress from his outstanding rookie campaign. During the 2023 regular season, he received an 82.9 PFF defensive grade, good for ninth place among all NFL cornerbacks.

McDuffie has demonstrated his ability to play in the slot and along the boundary, as well as his ability to shadow opposing receivers (though L’Jarius Sneed’s presence has prevented him from having to do so). He has, to put it simply, lived up to the Chiefs’ expectations as a first-round choice they traded up for.

That’s excellent news because, considering what has happened with Kansas City’s secondary this offseason, McDuffie has grown significantly in value.

The Chiefs sent Sneed to the Tennessee Titans on March 29 in exchange for two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft—one in the third round and the other in the seventh. After Kansas City franchised Sneed in the hopes of reaching an agreement on a multi-year contract, the move was made because the team was unable to satisfy Sneed’s contract demands.

McDuffie has been thrown into the Chiefs secondary as the CB1 since Sneed left the team. In addition, Spotrac reports that McDuffie’s base pay for the 2024 and 2025 seasons will total $4.1 million. Considering his role and worth to the organisation, this is a relatively affordable contract.

The current members of Kansas City’s cornerback group are Ekow Boye-Doe, McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, Joshua Williams, Nic Jones, Chamarri Conner, Kelvin Joseph, and Keith Taylor.

Specifics Of Mike Danna’s Three-Year Contract With The Chiefs

Over The Cap has now disclosed the terms of defensive end Mike Danna’s $24 million, three-year contract with the Chiefs.

A $6.5 million signing bonus and a guaranteed $13 million are included in Danna’s contract. For the upcoming three seasons, his base pay will be $2.25 million, $5.2 million, and $8.2 million, in that order. In addition, he will receive a $250,000 fitness bonus for the following three seasons.

The following three seasons will see his cap hits of $4.6 million, $8.1 million, and $11.1 million, respectively.

It is indeed a blessing. At his April 10 press conference, Danna expressed his gratitude and luck at being a part of this organisation once more. It feels fantastic since I’ve been putting all of my faith in myself for years—letting my work speak for itself and being a diligent worker and role model. I only want to be known for that, and that is who I am. I’m just a grinder, and I’m happy to be here again.
