Even though CeeDee Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys are at odds over a contract, the organization is been alerted to a possible wide receiver option.

Although a deal involving Lamb is probably inevitable, Dallas may choose to choose a wide receiver early in the draft as a result of this development and the fact that Michael Gallup hasn’t been adequately replaced. But according to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, the Cowboys should stay away from Brian Thomas Jr.

Though LSU’s Brian Thomas Jr. should be off the table even in a surprise scenario, Knox wrote on April 8 that “the Cowboys could use another explosive receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb, and it won’t surprise anyone if Dallas plays the wild card and takes one early. Thomas has the tools to be a dynamic field-stretching receiver, but he lacks the polish to be a complete package as a rookie.” Thomas Jr. is an exciting NFL prospect who may even be selected before the Cowboys kick the dice, but Knox feels that the issue is that Dallas needs a player who can contribute right away rather than someone who needs time to develop.

A Brief Overview of Brian Thomas Jr.

Thomas needed a breakthrough year going into his 2023 year at LSU, and he got one. During his first two seasons with the Tigers, he only had 720 total receiving yards, according to Sports Reference.

However, Thomas gained a lot when QB Jayden Daniels returned to LSU and revitalized the offense. With 68 receptions, the Walker, Louisiana native amassed 1177 receiving yards. In the process, he scored a staggering 17 touchdowns.

Thomas obviously have talent and elite athleticism based on those astounding stats. Considering that he ran a 4.33 40-yard sprint at the NFL Combine etc.

Knox has valid concerns, though. Although Thomas has the potential to become a top wide receiver, he is not there yet. Dallas has assembled a team that has qualified for the playoffs three years in a row, so they are in a “win now” mindset.

In this draft, the Cowboys may select one or two receivers who can start right away. A bold and expensive move up in the first round would be necessary to acquire someone like Marvin Harrison Jr.

CeeDee Lamb Might Wait for the Cowboys

The Cowboys may now need to get ready for a holdout in addition to addressing contract issues pertaining to quarterback Dak Prescott. Lamb might decide to do so, according to a recent report by Michael Gehlken of Dallas Morning News.

“When asked if Lamb will be joining teammates at Ford Center at The Star for the Cowboys’ spring practices, Lamb’s agent, Tory Dandy, did not reply. However, Gehlken remarked on April 8 that “of course, Dandy and Lamb are aware attendance is voluntary for the majority of spring.”

Lamb, who made the All-Pro first team, is coming off the best NFL season of his career. He may end up being among the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL as he approaches the latter year of his deal. In fact, a five-year, $155 million contract has been forecasted for him.
