Chris DiMarco at the Galleri Classic last week.

According to Rocco Mediate, Chris DiMarco was kidding.

That statement he made on GOLF’s “Subpar” podcast last week? Where did he think DiMarco and Mediate play on the 50-and-over PGA Tour Champions circuit, which LIV Golf should purchase?

On Monday, Mediate stated, it was made in joke.

He stated on his SiriusXM show “The Rocco Hour” that “so Chrisy said that, and that is a complete— joking, like, yeah, I want the LIV tour to buy us so we can play for more money.”

“He is aware; we all are aware—are you serious? At this age, we’re content if we’re playing for any money at all. Chris, back off. Step back from him. He was teasing me. It was very funny. It is not going to occur. And I assure you that we are content. Chris DiMarco appears content in his current golfing location. I want no part of this verbal abuse directed against him. Put an end to it. Simply put, quit. Please.

Six days prior, DiMarco’s idea swiftly gained popularity due to the ongoing three-season rivalry between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV. When asked if PGA Tour Champions players were discussing LIV and “all the money that’s being thrown around” on “Subpar,” DiMarco gave the following response:

To be honest, we kind of hope that LIV purchases the Champions Tour. Here we are, let’s play for some real money. When we’re talking about an average of two million [dollars], this is kind of a joke. Approximately seven men from TPC made more money last week than we did.

And that’s when the remarks started. And it seems DiMarco witnessed a couple.

Mediate claimed on his broadcast that DiMarco spoke with him last week and asked him how he ought to react. That’s when DiMarco told him he was kidding.

The mediator advised him to go forward.

On his show, he declared, “They’re not buying the Champions.” They aren’t even glancing over our itinerary. We love our tour exactly the way it is. Alright. Good, we’re playing for two million dollars a week. We are a century old. Not an issue. So please, quit busting your assholes, everyone. Simply put, quit. Please.

It’s known as a joke. Take care of it. Afterwards.

The topic discussion concluded with a narrative and yet another appeal. Here is the entire conversation, which was initiated by a cast member of Mediate’s show, for clarity:

“You know, the whole LIV thing started to break when I was up in Madison caddying for you,” he remarked. “And we were on the putting green, obviously being inside the ropes as a caddie, and everyone was like, ‘Screw these guys.’ I won’t name names because that will follow me to the grave.” This money isn’t theirs to take. This is just so much blah blah blah. “And if they call you with 5 million?” you inquired. The other player on the Tour then asks, “What time is my tee time?”

“What time is my tee time?” said the mediator. When should I depart? No, please, can everyone just shut up? They proceeded to criticize his persona. It is awkward. Simply put, quit. He’s making jokes. We’re enjoying ourselves. Unfortunately.

Yes, that is the case. However, we’re content. Believe me, we are ecstatic. Furthermore, we are exactly where we should be. I tell them that all the time. You’re in the right place at all times. You would prefer to be somewhere else. However, you are where you are. That’s what I always say. It is accurate, too. You cannot conceal anything with that.

Yes, I felt the need to express that since, come on, he’s one of our boys. Indeed, we would have dismantled him if he had been sincere and demeaning. He wasn’t, though. He was teasing me. Thus, kindly, enough is enough.
